A Walk Through Redbud Woods 32
Karen Brazell, Professor Emeritus of Asian Studies, in Redbud Woods

On June 6, 2005, construction began on the North end of Woods (the left side on this map), near the corner of University and University. Only about a dozen trees were cut before a combination of resistance and weather brought the logging to a halt. As of July 12, the cutting had not resumed due ongoing negotiations between the Redbud Woods Working Group and the Cornell administration.
On July 13, Interim President Rawlings gave the order to CUPD and Economy Paving to resume construction - even as he sat in a negotiation meeting with members of the Cornell faculty!

Check Latest News often to find out about community events in the Redbud Woods.

ADD YOURSELF TO THE EMERGENCY CONTACT LIST:
Email redbud911@gmail.com to be contacted immediately if construction resumes. Include your phone number (cell if possible).

STOP BY THE WOODS:
[Location] We need people there for support, as witnesses, and generally to create a calming presence. If construction resumes, cameras (picture and video) are helpful. If you can, bring food and water for those non-violently defending the Woods.

SURRENDER YOUR PARKING PERMIT:
The Redbud Woods Working Group now seeks to assemble a list of 300 Cornell students, faculty, and staff who would voluntarily surrender their parking permits if the University administration will agree to spare Redbud Woods. Email redbuddies@gmail.com if this describes you! A parking permit costs just over $600 a year, while an annual TCAT bus pass is only $200 for Cornell Students and free for faculty and staff. Over $30,000 has already been raised to turn Redbud Woods into a preserved urban woodland - complete with a plaque commemorating the first 300 who give up their parking permits.
